Gyanmarg Secondary School Wins District-Level Mathematics Quiz Competition in Gorkha

Gorkha | March 1, 2026 (Falgun 16, 2082 BS)The Mathematics Education Council (MEC), Gorkha, successfully organized a district-level Mathematics Quiz Competition on Saturday. The event aimed to increase students’ interest in mathematics and demonstrate that the subject can be learned in a fun and engaging way.

The program was chaired by Mr. Ganesh Raj Sapkota, President of MEC Gorkha. The event was graced by Mr. Min Bahadur Nepali (Central Committee Member of MEC and Coordinator of the Advisory Committee for MEC Gorkha) as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Ved Prasad Sharma (President of MEC Gandaki Province) as the Special Guest.

Competition Phases and Participation
The competition was conducted in two phases. The first phase, held on February 23 (Falgun 11), consisted of a written objective examination in which more than 60 schools from across the Gorkha district participated. From the initial phase, the top 9 schools were selected for the final round held on Falgun 16.

To make the competition interactive and modern, the organizers used various formats, including Alternative Rounds, Batting Rounds, Rapid Fire Rounds, and Visual Rounds. The technical aspects of the quiz were facilitated by Mr. Ved Prasad Sharma (Gandaki Province President) and Mr. Yadav Bahadur Adhikari (Treasurer of MEC Kaski).

Results and Prizes
Gyanmarg Secondary School, Gandaki, emerged as the winner of the competition. Old Capital Secondary School secured the second position, while Dullav Secondary School stood third. Mahalaxmi Secondary School, Laxmi Bazar, bagged the consolation prize.

The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates. The first, second, third, and consolation prize winners received Rs. 5,000, Rs. 4,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,000, respectively. Additionally, the top two teams (Gyanmarg and Old Capital) have been selected to represent the district in the upcoming Provincial Level Mathematics Quiz Competition.

Key Remarks
During the event, MEC Gorkha President Ganesh Raj Sapkota emphasized that such competitions help remove the “math phobia” among students. He stated that the council’s goal is to make mathematics “simple, easy, nutritious, and flavorful” for learners.

Other speakers including math teacher Lek Prasad Bhattarai, Chief Guest Min Bahadur Nepali, and Special Guest Ved Prasad Sharma also shared their views on the importance of innovative math education.

Coordination and Sponsorship
Mr. Raju Kumar Shrestha, a member of the MEC Gorkha Advisory Committee, played a significant role in coordinating the event at his school. The program was sponsored by Readmore Publication, which provided financial support to the council.

The event began with a welcome speech by MEC Gorkha Treasurer Ms. Samjhana Thapa Magar and was conducted by Secretary Mr. Ram Krishna Dhakal.
